Transcription: The Smithsonian Institution building, popularly called the Castle, is one of the finest Gothic Revival structures in the country. It's the venerable hub of the world's largest complex of museums. The Institution was founded in 1846 through a bequest from James Smithson, the noted English scientist. This classic photograph dates from the Civil War era. In his lifetime, Smithson never visited the United States, but his remains now rest here in a crypt in the castle.
